Yes- I get just as frustrated as the next person with the ongoing ‘live’ experiments and changes Facebook puts out there. But this change is important to understand if you are using Facebook to grow your audience and drive new people to your website. In other words, the marketing aspect of using Facebook social media.

Here’s the skinny from Facebook:
“Starting soon, we’ll be doing a better job of distinguishing between a high quality article on a website versus a meme photo hosted somewhere other than Facebook when people click on those stories on mobile,” the duo wrote on the company blog. “This means that high quality articles you or others read may show up a bit more prominently in your News Feed, and meme photos may show up a bit less prominently.”

As a business person, and social media manager for other businesses, I’ve been extremely annoyed at the changes in September that dropped outreach for all of us – and their all too obvious ploy to ‘encourage’ us to Promote Posts or purchase FB Ads.  Too many times I’ve watched informative articles fall by the wayside, while photos rule in the news feed. I get it that social media is about being ‘social’ and most people are on there for that reason. I constantly preach to clients that to be successful, your outreach needs to be viewed as a service, helpful information, or something that inspires and motivates – not pushy sales pitches. I’ve used photos to my advantage as best as I could, but look forward to seeing the sharing of relevant information rise to the top.

Do you see advantages for your business with this recent change? Or are you tired of Facebook telling you how you will view your newsfeed?
